What You Can Do
Although Shriners cling to outdated, cruel fundraisers, at least two civic groups have paid attention to changing attitudes toward the plight of animals in entertainment. Lions Clubs International, the world's largest service club association, recently advised its clubs to beware of using "circuses and other events that may abuse animals used as part of the entertainment." Likewise, Kiwanis International has advised its clubs to avoid circus fundraisers.
- Never buy a ticket to a Shrine Circus or any other circus that uses animal acts.
-
Contact the Shriners and urge them to switch to animal-free circuses or alternative fundraisers that do not harm animals.

- If a Shrine Circus comes to your area, organize a demonstration on opening night and consider peacefully leafleting at every show. Contact PETA for circus leaflets to distribute, posters, stickers, and other materials. Review PETA's guide for steps to take when the circus comes to town.
